West Coast outfit Menace and the Three Stripes have already proved to be a formidable force early on in their partnership. After kicking things off with their first Superstar, carrying several design choices symbolic of founder Steven Mena’s upbringing in LA, the two reconvened for Mother’s Day, fittingly turning up the sentimentality with a (literally) rosy edition of the shell toe.
In the time between, the world’s attention has turned to Los Angeles as one of several host cities for the ongoing World Cup. So why not stay close to home again for the two brand’s third act? Having stamped his narrative bonafides with those previous two efforts, of course Mena’s embrace of the international stage is equally considered. Reaching for the adidas Predator ’94 and Menace’s first official kits, the collection derives from the shared “Sol” and “Ciela” (sun and sky) that we all share, highlighting connectivity over divisiveness.
Though the sky blue public colorway for the converted boot communicates its titular purpose pretty clearly, the presence of paisley patterning on the toe, chainlink embroidery on the quarter panel, and steely eyestays continue that love for the City of Angels. On the jerseys, titled “Halo White” and “Hora De Oro” (Golden Hour), the obvious central cue is the tarot-like star, split into home and away style colorways with additional callouts to both the brand and the motifs seen on the shoes.
The adidas x Menace Predator ’94 and kits are dropping via Menace and CONFIRMED on July 14th, retailing for $160 across the board. Additionally, for LA locals, both brands are hosting an activation on July 11th (free to the public) offering an early chance at product in addition to live music and food. Catch product images of the blue public colorway below; a yellow F&F exclusive is also in the works, to be revealed at said LA event.
