Nike’s Air Max 90 Dons a New “Tough Red” Look for 2026

Nike’s Air Max 90 celebrated its 35th birthday in 2025, but was overshadowed by the AM95 celebration. Luckily, new colors are still arriving in 2026, like this “Tough Red” edition, coming soon.

The Air Max 90 remains one of Nike’s greatest achievements from their early visible Air days. The retro running shoe is among the best silhouettes from the Air Max family, in good company with the 1, 95, and 97 models. The 90 has had plenty of time to shine in its thirty-five-plus year run, most recently during its thirtieth anniversary celebration in 2020, which refined the silhouette’s shape and included the original arch inserts with each anniversary release. The model’s 35th birthday was overshadowed by the Air Max 95 last year, but Nike quietly dropped a ton of heat throughout the year, and have continued to release new colors into 2026. This week, we have an early looka t a new addition to the catalog, a “Tough Red” colorway that combines the shoe’s OG color blocking with the iconic Chicago palette. The new look features shades of grey mesh and suede for the main body of the shoe, with black accents for the upper eyestay and mudguard pieces. The Tough Red shade is applied to the other TPU eyestay, Swooshes, heel tabs, and midsole accents, while a white patterned tongue completes the look.

Nike’s next new colorway of the Air Max 90 has not been announced officially yet, but is expected to land sometime soon in Summer 2026. The new look brings “Tough Red” accents to a greyscale palette, evoking their famous ‘Infrared’ or ‘Chicago’ color palettes. Pairs will be available from both Nike and select retailers for $135.
